History of Bryson City NC
For 14,000 years the Cherokee had been living and hunting in the area where Bryson City is located. The Cherokee’s oldest village called, “Kituwha”, was located upstream from where Bryson city is today. in the 1800s the land was sold to Colonel Thaddeus Bryson and Alfred Cline. Cline’s wife then sold a part of the land to the county to form Bryson City. The town was named after the many services rendered to the city by Thaddeus Bryson.
