History of Oak Hill WV
First incorporated on February 25, 1903, Oak Hill, though not the county seat, is the largest city in Fayette County. The City got its name because of its location under a spreading white oak tree at nearby Hilltop and the fact that it was located on a hill. Country singer Hank Williams was discovered to be dead while the car in which he was a passenger was stopped in Oak Hill, and Oak Hill is generally accepted to be his place of death. They dedicated a memorial road to Hank Williams in Oak Hill.
